Poetry

Painting is silent poetry, and poetry is painting that speaks.

                                       by  Plutarch

This webpage contains some poems I have written over the last few years. I have been writing poetry throughout my life but it has not always been consistent. The poems center around my spiritual beliefs and other themes; some poems are personal, some are meant to give the reader a message, and some are just meant to be enjoyed.

A New Beginning

It begins with awareness,

And is introduced with love.

The knowledge to choose

The old man nature or the new.

It will provide comfort,

It is the end of doubt.

It will satisfy the need

To know the purpose of life.

It is the path to righteousness,

A journey to the abundant life.

To become a citizen of His kingdom,

The source of all power and love.

It is a new beginning

When we claim our sonship rights

To fellowship with the Father

And become joint heirs with Christ

The gift of the spiritual birth

Is eternal life and power from on high.

It will carry us from darkness to light

The moment we confess our Lord, Jesus Christ.

 John 10 : 10

"The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly."

Mind-Body-Soul

When I followed my heart

I gave him my love.

I surrendered my soul

But he betrayed me with loneliness and hurt.

When I reasoned with my mind

I was still searching and without hope.

When I was lead by my senses

I was displaced and remained unfulfilled.

When I refused the guidance of others

I was made to feel guilt and labeled rebellious.

 I also explored spiritual enlightenment
I felt happy but a feeling is only circumstantial.

When I found God, my refuge

I found my path and everlasting joy.

This poem is a personal journey about how a person relies on the exterior to fill the need to be loved and feel whole.  Internal wholeness cannot be achieved by exterior sources like a partner`s love - it is not always garanteed.  But the love of God is complete and available to anyone who believes and therefore receives.

The Actions of One

They saw with thier eyes

And were marvelled by His works.

They heard the words He spoke,

Which He revealed were not His own.

He preached the message of His Father

To reconcile the sheep who were lost.

He was a shepherd for the humble

And a servant of the Lord.

The son of a loving Father,

He broke bread and drank wine

With followers, friends, and the corrupt,

Yet He was betrayed, the one of innocent blood.

He endured till the end,

Carrying the cross and fate of man.

His mockers said "save yourself,"

But His heart was overcome with tenderness and love.

The son of man spoke and said,

"Father forgive them; for they know not what they do..."

God was with His son always,

Never was Christ forsaken, even onto His death.

His mission was finished and purpose fulfilled,

The curtain was torn in two,

And the power of death conquered.

Don't ignore the love Christ has for you.

Ephesians 3 : 19

"And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God."

Divine Duty

He gives up his life

In the name of Allah.

A sacrifice with a purpose

That his countrymen will be free.

"I will now ignite my soul,

And my enemies shall also burn.

Oh great one, I am ready to honor you."

His death was not in vain,

He was called to duty

To fight in a foreign land

For the interest of his leaders

To restore pride in the promise land.

His foe was conditioned to believe

His life is a living sacrifice

To avenge the honor of his people.

"I am a soldier of Allah

But the strangers call me a suicide bomber."

"I am not a stranger,

I was ordered by my country

To perform a military duty.

I am a soldier on a mission

To bring justice to the innocent

Whom your holy brothers brought death."

"You are brain washed to think

We are the evil ones.

But I tell you my friend,

Live among my people for a while.

Thier hardship is why in the name of Allah, I surrender my life."

"I am a military soldier trained for battle.

I ask God daily that He protect my life."

"I share your fear of death and the unknown,

But the arms of God will protect me

Until I decide it is time for my end."

"Do you know the story of Jesus?"

"Yes, He was a prophet Allah sent."

"The Church taught me,

He was sacrificed to bring salvation to man."

"He honored Allah and I will also do the same."

"I also read in my bible,

God gave His children power to bring life back to the dead.

My Father in heaven is not the author of death.

It is the false god who has mislead us both.

We are his puppets,

Exploited to bring death upon the world.

I was born to live, not to die.

Do you understand my friend,

The true God wants us alive."

Hebrews  2 : 14

"Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he (Jesus) also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil"

(The purpose of the above poem is not to degrade the Muslim faith but to show that just as a suicide bomber is conditioned to give up his life, so is  military soldier conditioned to believe that if he is killed in combat, his death is not in vain but he died in service for his country.  In my eyes there is little difference in the justification of a death of a suicide bomber or the death of a soldier in action.  If anyone is offended by this poem, send me an email as to why.)

Don’t Give In

The innocence of a child

Lost to the susceptibility of youth.

The ambitions of a student

Hindered by the impediments of society.

The hope of a parent

Destroyed by the addiction of dependency.

The love of a spouse

Abused by the hatred of self.

The trust of a friend

Broken by the lips of a liar.

The prosperity of a layman

Stolen by the handshake of a thief.

The vision of a leader

Destroyed by the greed of his heart.

The underlying conviction of a believer

Deluded by the charismatic spirit of his elder.

The greatest man of the East

Lost his wealth and children due to fear.

Job did not yield to the temptation

To blame God for his misfortunes.

He prayed without ceasing for himself and his friends.

The Lord rewarded him with twice the riches.

Do not to give up on God

And He will not give up on you.

1 Peter  5: 7 - 9

"Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.  Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world. But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you. To him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen."

John 8 : 7

"So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her."

1 Timothy 3 : 2 - 4

"A bishop (a leader / overseer) then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach;  Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous;  One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity;"

... in other words ... a Christian man, according to the Word of God, is not a striker ... he does not physically assault his wife or his children ... but a little slap on the wrist helps to discipline a child.

Aftershock

We have entered their world

Which the adversary has fractured.

Their afflictions made worse,

An existence shrouded in grim.

A century of misery

That the world did ignore.

A generation of displaced souls

Inundated by the stench of death.

The reminisce of a people taken captive

To serve the insatiable lusts of their masters.

Who were the lovers of stature and money

And bond-slaves serving the dragon.

They revolted against a tyrant

To end the thrashings their souls endured.

Their wounds were covered but never healed.

However, a new order began to emerge.

By the rubble the hungry sit and wait.

This is what I see on the Internet.

Overwhelmed by the images of death

I ask God “Why them?”

The foreigners are suddenly concerned.

The lower, middle, and upper class

Have generously given and opened their homes

But death is the basis for their actions.

I ask God again “Why the innocent, I don’t understand?”

In the midst of ambiguity I received an answer,

“It is easier to respond to human suffering

Then to take responsibility for man’s injustice.”

Dedicated to the lives lost in Haiti after the earthquake.

1 Timothy 6: 9-10

"But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.  For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows."

Dear Christian Friend

Dear Christian friend

I wanted to introduce myself,

I learned that your god is nice

And his son was the chosen one.

*

I know you don't really like me

Because when I hear you on TV

On on your YouTube channel

You say my kind will go to hell.

*

When I did a word study on 'hell'

I learned it was a place for the dead

A temporary state of unconsciousness

A man enters when he breathes his last breath

*

Dear Christian friend

Didn't you say that hell is where

Your God will punish me for eternity

But that is not what the bible said.

*

Then I learned about a man called Jesus

He seemed to be a really nice guy

It is written he is God's son

And died for the redemption of all mankind

*

Wow, dear Christian friend!

Does that mean that Jesus died for you and me?

All man was did in sin

But accepting Jesus made us both clean.

*

I am now like you, my spiritual brother

I am made whole - body, soul, and spirit

So my kind does have a chance

To be joint heirs with Christ above

*

I still struggle with my carnal desires

I do not want to act on them

But sometimes I still give in

And I'm sure my friend, you also sin

*

Can I ask you for a favor dear friend

Please pray for me, and I for you

To back down the tempter from our lives

So we both can claim victory in God's eyes.

Romans 10: 9-13

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.

12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.

13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Whosever accepts Jesus Christ as lord and saviour, is made whole and receives eternal life. Accepting Jesus is the first step to become a Christian.  How much you want to grow spiritually is all up to you.
